Opposition leaders have again accused Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish justice secretary, of misleading the Scottish parliament and the public over his decision to free the Lockerbie bomber.
Annabel Goldie, the Scottish Tory leader, said MacAskill had given MSPs the inaccurate impression on Monday that Strathclyde police had warned against keeping Abdelbaset al-Megrahi at home in Scotland because it would have caused security problems. MacAskill's release of Megrahi on compassionate grounds is under increasing attack from MSPs and he faces an opposition vote condemning his decision next week.
Two Liberal Democrat MSPs and a parliamentary candidate have publicly backed MacAskill's decision, saying he had no other choice. However, Labour MSPs are raising doubts about the medical advice that Megrahi is likely to die within three months.
