Venezuela Calls Colombia Forces 'Drug Cartel'

Venezuelan Interior and Justice Minister Tarek El Aissami said Saturday that Colombia’s DAS security service is “an important drug-trafficking cartel.”

In a statement to state television channel VTV, the minister also reported the confiscation of 1,450 kilos (1½ tons) of “alleged marijuana” on Friday, which brings to 46.2 tons of illegal drugs seized in Venezuela so far this year, almost a fourth of them “Colombian drugs impounded in the last two months.”

Both the DAS and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration “have become important drug-trafficking cartels,” he said.

Venezuela’s accusation against the DEA has been repeated since four years ago when Venezuela’s socialist President Hugo Chavez broke off relations with the U.S. agency after accusing it of being involved in the drug trade as well as in political espionage against him.
