WILLEMSTAD, Curacao -- Curacao police and prosecutors say DNA on blood-spattered clothes found on a beach match that a U.S. diplomat who vanished on the Dutch Caribbean island last week.
In a joint statement issued late Thursday, Curacao authorities said the Dutch Forensic Institute has confirmed that bloody clothes found along Baya Beach belonged to James Hogan. The 49-year-old vice consul was reported missing last week by his wife.
Police report they have also found Hogan's cell phone in the sea.
Officials are searching beaches and the sea floor for traces of Hogan.
The Curacao prosecutor's office said the Royal Dutch Navy and the U.S. Navy were assisting with the search.
