Italian police are investigating the theft of an estimated $15 million worth of jewellery and cash from the hotel room of a Saudi princess staying in an exclusive resort in Sardinia.
The audacious burglary was one of two almost identical heists to hit the Costa Smeralda, where the Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, owns villas.
The thieves, apparently acting with inside knowledge, entered the unnamed princess's room using a master key, hacked the safe from the wall and made off with it without arousing any immediate suspicion.
