Following the release of a recent Pentagon report that China’s military investments could destabilize the region, state-run media in China went on the offensive calling the report distorted and illogical. In particular, Chinese news outlets criticized allegations in the report that China’s military buildup in the Taiwan Straits was anything more than a defensive posture, according to a report on lignet.com.
State-run media outlets in China reacted strongly to a report issued on August 24th by the Pentagon, which claimed that “China’s military investments have allowed China to pursue capabilities that are potentially destabilizing to regional military balances.” Within days of the report of the being issued, China’s largest state-run media outlet, Xinhua, issued scathing criticisms, calling it “severely distorted” and “based on a wild guess and illogical reasoning.”
