Following a tip from U.S. authorities, the Colombian navy has seized 3,200 pounds of cocaine from a boat in the  Caribbean.

The speedboat left Manaure, a town in northern Colombia, and was intercepted in international waters while en route to the Dominican Republic.

Five people — a Colombian and four Venezuelan nationals — have been arrested. They are in custody in Tampa, Fla., the BBC reported.

The cocaine allegedly belonged to the Los Urabenos, a Colombian criminal gang.
Since taking office in August 2010,Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has made combating such gangs a top priority.

According to Colombia Reports, Los Urabenos has been gaining strength in recent years while other Colombian criminal gangs have weakened.

Last year, El Tiempo reported that the group had been so successful in attacking rival gangs that they it had left surviving members of the Medellin cartel, formerly run by Pablo
Escobar, without territory.
