JERUSALEM — Israel's prime minister says his country is ready for "any possible scenario" after President Barack Obama put on hold potential military action in Syria.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet Sunday that Israel is "calm and self-assured." He also said Israel's enemies "have very good reasons not to test our strength."

Netanyahu appeared to be trying to calm a nation that is on edge as tensions rise between the US and Syria. With the US threatening to strike Syria in response to alleged chemical weapons use, many Israelis fear that Syria might retaliate by attacking across the border at Israel.

Netanyahu made no mention of Obama's decision over the weekend to seek congressional approval for an attack on Syria. But many media commentators Sunday criticized Obama for being indecisive.
