LIGNET: Turkey and Syria Not Likely to Go to War

Are Turkey and Syria on the brink of war? In response to a Syrian mortar hit on a Turkish town, the Turkish parliament authorized military action and Turkey fired into Syria for two straight days. But with Russia intervening, persuading Damascus to admit responsibility and refrain from further action, and the international community refusing to sanction any action by Turkey, it is unlikely that the situation will continue to escalate, at least in the short term.
