A sharp increase in violence in the Sinai since the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi is threatening the stability of the Middle East and also Egypt’s transition to democracy. The Egyptian Army has launched a major campaign to cleanse the peninsula of Islamist insurgents, arresting 90 people just in the last month. But it will require continued vigilance to ensure the Sinai does not return to being a safe haven for terrorists.
