Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s announcement over the weekend that he will undergo a fourth cancer operation suggests he lied to the Venezuelan people about the seriousness of his illness to win re-election in October. He will not likely survive the next year, and though he has now named a successor, who will lead Venezuela after he is gone is still very much in doubt.
